Working Holiday Visa Australia (Subclass 462)

30 September 2024: New Pre-Application Ballot Process for Subclass 462 Visa

Australia is implementing a new pre-application ballot process for the high-demand Work and Holiday (Subclass 462) visa, starting on October 1, 2024. This change aims to manage the increasing demand for these visas and will be applicable to citizens of China, India, and Vietnam.

Key Updates:

  1. Pre-Application Ballot Introduction: A pre-application ballot will now determine who can apply for the Work and Holiday visa. Individuals interested in applying must register for the ballot, and only those selected will receive an invitation to apply.

  2. Online Registration: Eligible individuals can register online to enter the ballot from October 1, 2024. Registration will be open for a set period, with details provided closer to the date.

  3. One Registration Per Year: Applicants can only register for the ballot once per program year. Those who are not selected in the ballot may try again in future years.

Ballot Selection:

  1. Selection Process: Those selected through the ballot will receive an email with instructions on how to submit their visa application. If not selected, applicants will have to wait until the following year to try again.

  2. Important Notes: The ballot system applies only to the Work and Holiday (Subclass 462) visa and is designed to manage the high number of applications from eligible countries. Other visa subclasses are not affected.

Other Information:

The Department of Home Affairs encourages interested applicants to stay informed about further updates on this process. Full details on the registration dates and process will be available on the official website closer to the October 1 start date.

12 September 2024: Subclass 462 Visa Update on Pre-application Process

The Australian government has announced significant changes to the Subclass 462 Work and Holiday Visa, introducing a new pre-application (ballot) process with an AUD25 registration fee starting on September 16, 2024. This initiative aims to manage the high demand from countries such as India, China, and Vietnam by implementing a ballot system.

Key Changes:

  1. Ballot System: A random selection process will be implemented for high-demand countries, providing a fair chance for all applicants, especially where the number of registrations significantly exceeds the available spots for a participant country in a program year.

  2. Application Age: The visa is available for applicants aged 18-30 with a valid passport from a participating country.

  3. The registration and selection dates will be announced on the Department of Home Affairs website, with selections conducted through a computerized random draw.

The pre-application process will apply only to first-time Work and Holiday (subclass 462) visa applicants from China, Vietnam, and India. Nationals from these countries who have already been granted a first visa can still apply for a second or third visa online via Immi Account. Existing processes for first, second, and third visa applicants from other participating countries will remain unchanged.

The AUD 25 ballot registration fee is aligned with other visa programs using the ballot process and is a small additional cost compared to the AUD 650 Visa Application Charge for the Work and Holiday (subclass 462) visa.
