The Remaining Relative Visa Subclass 115 is a permanent visa that allows individuals to move to Australia if they have no close family members living outside the country. It’s designed for those whose only immediate family such as parents, siblings, or children are Australian citizens or permanent residents.
If you’ve been separated from your family and they are all based in Australia, this visa may provide a long-term solution to reunite.
What the Visa Allows You to Do
As a holder of the Remaining Relative Visa, you can live in Australia permanently, work and study without restrictions, access Medicare, and sponsor certain family members. You'll also be able to travel in and out of Australia for up to five years and may apply for citizenship when eligible.
Sponsorship and Eligibility
To apply, you must be sponsored by a parent, step-parent, sibling, step-sibling, child, or the eligible partner of a relative who is an Australian citizen or permanent resident. The sponsor must be settled in Australia, typically meaning they’ve lived here lawfully for at least two years.
Applicants must:
Be outside Australia when applying and when the visa is granted
Have no other close relatives living permanently overseas or in Australia unlawfully or on a temporary visa
Meet health, character, and financial requirements, including an Assurance of Support
Sign the Australian Values Statement if over 18
You may include dependent family members in your application, provided they also meet all eligibility criteria.
Application Process and Costs
This visa must be applied for from outside Australia, and you must remain offshore during the entire process. The application fee starts from AUD 5,125, paid in two instalments. Additional costs may apply for dependants, medical checks, police certificates, or biometrics.
Processing times are lengthy due to limited annual places and high demand. Applications are processed in order of the queue and may take several years to finalise.
After the Visa Is Granted
This is a permanent visa, so you can stay in Australia indefinitely. However, your travel facility is valid for five years. After that, you’ll need to apply for a Resident Return Visa to re-enter Australia, unless you become an Australian citizen.
Once in Australia, you must comply with visa conditions, inform immigration if your circumstances change, and follow all Australian laws.

The Remaining Relative Visa Subclass 115 is one of the few permanent options available for people whose only close family lives in Australia. While the wait time can be long, it offers a path to live, work, and settle permanently with your loved ones.
