Working Holiday Visa Australia (Subclass 417 and 462)

Relaxation of Visa Condition 8547

The temporary relaxation of Condition 8547, allowing WHMs to work for the same employer beyond six months without requesting permission, ended on June 30, 2023.

WHMs must now request permission to work longer than six months unless they qualify for specific exemptions. For more details, refer to the Department of Home Affairs website.
Age Limit Changes

Expanded Age Eligibility: Citizens of Canada, France, Ireland, Denmark, and Italy can now apply up to 35 years of age (inclusive).

UK Citizens: From July 1, 2024, UK passport holders are exempt from the specified work requirement when applying for a second or third WHV.
Caps and Allocations

For the 2022–23 program year, caps were increased by 30%. For the 2024–25 program year, a new pre-application ballot process was introduced for certain countries, such as China, India, and Vietnam, to manage high demand. Applicants from these countries must now register through ImmiAccount and be selected via ballot before applying for a Work and Holiday (subclass 462) visa.

An additional 1,400 places continue to be allocated annually to Hungary, Austria, and the Slovak Republic.
Application Suspensions

Applications from Ecuador and Vietnam are temporarily suspended due to high volumes. Applications from Mongolia remain closed, while countries like China and India now operate under a ballot-based selection process for the Work and Holiday Visa.
New Pre-Application Ballot Process

A pre-application ballot system has been introduced for certain countries. Applicants must register via ImmiAccount and pay a registration fee of AUD 25 before being invited to apply. More details are available on the Department of Home Affairs Ballot Information Page.

Working Holiday Visa (WHV)
A Working Holiday Visa is for young adults who want an extended holiday and to work here to fund it.
To apply for a Working Holiday Visa, you must:

Be aged 18 to 30 years (inclusive), or up to 35 years for eligible countries (Canada, France, Ireland, Denmark, Italy).

Hold a passport from an eligible country or jurisdiction.

Not be accompanied by dependent children during your stay.

Third Working Holiday visa
This visa lets people 18 to 30 years old (inclusive) - and Canadian, French, and Irish citizens 18 to 35 years old (inclusive) - who currently hold, or who have held, a second Working Holiday visa, have a third working holiday in Australia.

You must have completed 6 months of specified work while holding your second 417 visa or a bridging visa in certain circumstances
Working Holiday Visa Extension
If your Working Holiday Visa is expiring, you may or may not be able to extend to another Working Holiday Visa depending on your eligibility.
